Jet lag! It will take a couple of weeks to get over the 9.5 hour time difference from the US. The culture change, plus the change in time, plus the change in diet, plus all of the other changes (separation from friends, family, co-workers, home, work, etc.) really send you on an emotional roller coaster (almost daily). This will pass once we catch up on sleep and get a rhythm going.
The first 10 days will be spent in Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital (southwest). The is where LCD Sri Lanka is headquartered. This is a natural headquarters because all of the government offices and ministries are here. There are two other Disability Resource Centers around the island: Galle (south) and Trinco (east).
GSK has made a substantial donation to LCD Galle. This is the bread and butter resource center that all other LCD Asia resource centers are to be modeled after. This is where we will be stationed after the first 2.5 weeks of orientation. I hear the area is beautiful and I'm anxious to see it.
On Thursday we looked for places to live (we decided to just stay in a hotel for the rather short duration) as well as met staff and got set up around the office.
These photos show us eating a traditional Sri Lankan lunch of rice and curry with our new colleagues. The food is very spicey! Sri Lankans tend to eat rice three meals a day.
