the night I saw Kem.....

2009.11.04

I used my daughter's polaroid, point and shoot camera for these shots....do you know why? my darn camera was in the shop for the second time this year!!!!

For those of you who dont know Kem, he is an R&B, jazzy type artist....and the day he came to town was one of the most stormiest days of the summer....The morning he arrived in town, the weather forecast called for rain....3-5 inches of rain! Every year, in the city, there is a week of jazz performers who play outdoors, for free. We call it a jazz fest...and every few years, the city finds the money to invite some really good artists! the last time I went to the jazz fest, I saw Najee, Alex Bugnon, and Jonathon Butler, all in the same night!!! For those of you who are familiar with the jazz genre, that is a big deal! as a matter of fact, Mr. Messyhalf had the privilege of standing right next to Najee, as he was making his way to the stage! So when I heard Kem was coming to town, I just knew I had to go...(he's another one of my pretend boyfriend's). The problem wasnt going, it was convincing Mr Messyhalf to go...So Kem was to perform at 7:00 pm, and around 5:30, we were still debating whether to pack our chairs and go...So we finally get in the car, start driving down the highway, and wouldnt you know, the heavens poured down buckets of rain, as we were entering the city limits....Mr Messyhalf told me that he wanted to sit in town for a little while and wait to see if the rain would stop....but when we parked, it just seemed like it wouldnt stop. So I began to pray....and no, I dont make it a habit to pray for something as silly as getting the rain to stop, but I prayed anyways....And it worked!!!! about 20 mts before the concert was to begin, the clouds broke, and the sun came out! So many people had not come into town, because of the rain, that the front of the stage was practically empty!! This performance was supposed to attract thousands of people and yet, there were maybe a couple hundred, give or take a few.. Ahhh, that night was so beautiful.....and I almost ruined it....not on purpose though...anyways, Kem is doing his last song, and its my favorite. "Heaven" is what its called. As he's singing, I am like totally into his performance, and he calls out to all the ladies, to come to the front, so he could serenade us all...well, unbeknownst to me, I hadnt realized that Mr Messyhalf had been holding my hand, so as I got up, I practically tore my hand from his and went towards the stage...after Kem was finished singing, us ladies staid near the front and danced while the band continued to play....So when it was time to leave, Mr Messyhalf was waiting, chairs folded up, and ready to go. As we're walking towards the car, I thank him for taking the chance of coming to the concert, and that it had been a lovely night....His response? "I guess it was lovely, you practically threw your underwear at Kem tonight" he said begrudgedly....I was so surprised at what he said! Mr Messy half is not the jealous type at all! but he was tonight, and do you know what all I could do when he said that? I laughed!!! not a small chuckle kind of laugh, but a laugh in your face kind of laugh!!! He just walked away... so after a minute of trying to compose myself, I managed to catch up to him and got close enough to whisper in his ear "yea, but I'm going home with you...." He just smiled and shook his head....ahhh, I am a mess huh? I'll never forget that night, it was just too perfect! :-)

BuffyEyes At first glance, I though it was Seal, another singer. Glad the evening turned out well.
